Commercial signage for Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale packs very different sign settings into one city: downtown office towers, Las Olas storefronts, beachside hotels and restaurants, and busy commercial corridors such as Federal Highway, Sunrise Boulevard and Broward Boulevard. Size, lighting and placement limits depend on the zoning district, and many centers add landlord sign criteria on top.
We handle the whole job with one team: site survey, design and shop drawings, engineering, City of Fort Lauderdale permits, fabrication, installation and the final inspection. We are a state-licensed electrical sign contractor, so illuminated signs are wired and permitted by the same company that builds them.

Fort Lauderdale sign permit notes
Fort Lauderdale is in Broward County, so the process is different from the Miami-Dade cities we also serve. What the City publishes:
- A permit is required before any sign is erected, and the application includes a plot plan showing the location, type, size and copy of existing signs on the property (Unified Land Development Code, Sec. 47-22.9).
- Since January 1, 2024, permit applications are submitted online through the City's LauderBuild portal, using the Broward County Uniform Permit Application with plans uploaded for digital review.
- The City's Zoning FAQ notes that the only sign an owner-builder may install is a painted sign on an existing wall; other signs need a licensed contractor.
Sources: City of Fort Lauderdale LauderBuild and Zoning pages (fortlauderdale.gov) and the Fort Lauderdale ULDR Sec. 47-22 on Municode. Our own Fort Lauderdale jobs have gone through separate sign building and electrical permits for each sign.
